Henri Baanen (Dutch) has been in the marine elevator business for more than 30 years, working in companies like ThyssenKrupp. Henri has been installing marine elevators around the world since 1990, and knows the ins and outs as no other. Henri joined Mr. Marine Elevator in 2007 to become the company’s first Technical Manager. Since 2013 Henri has been working from his home in South Africa as Technical Manager and Mr. Marine Academy Trainer.

1. What do you like most about working at Mr. Marine?

Variety of work and the speed of the business. And the “having fun” part of the business is still there for me after almost 15 years of being part of the Mr. Marine team.

2. What is your greatest achievement at work?

The first job ever carried out by Mr. Marine Elevator was done by me (as a service engineer back then), then the implementation of the QM and ERP system, realisation of an offshore refurbishment project in Abu Dhabi, and setting up the Mr. Marine Academy.

3. What motivates you?

Besides my family, responding to customers and colleagues honestly and quickly, being there 24/7, and coaching technicians and colleagues.

4. What do you love most about what you do?

I love to learn/coach/motivate people and share my (over 25 years) of marine and industry elevator experience.

5. What is the best work advice you have ever received?

Grow big by staying humble.

6. What are your future career plans (goals)?

Working with the Mr. Marine team and sharing my knowledge and skills in the marine elevator business.
